Description
:
Striped pale cream and tan, to tan and brown. Raptorial dactyl with 6-7 teeth. Antennal scale with dark pigment and yellow spot in centre. May have yellowish patches on carapace.
Dark blotches on tail (telson and uropods).

Ecology
Inhabits U-shaped burrows in sand close to reefs from 17 to 75ft (5-25m).  Hunts during both day and night, capturing fish and shrimps (occasionally crabs) by trapping and puncturing them in it's toothed raptorial arms.

Life Cycle
Some members of the order Stomatopoda pair for life and some come together only to mate. Males produce sperm ducts rather than spermatophores; females can brood a maximum of 50,000 eggs. Life cycle: Eggs hatch to a planktonic zoea which lasts for 3 months
